Tools

PureRef — Idyllic Pixel

PureRef

This tool is a personal favourite of mine. When I found out it was totally free, I couldn’t believe it!

PureRef is a tool for arranging all your current references into one unifying view. This way, you don’t have to keep switching between different tabs and upsetting your workflow. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and quick to set up.

If you have a few bucks to spare, consider donating to the team as they are still putting out updates!

Tips and Tricks

Old-School Fur — Sergey Chesnokov

Last up is a very useful breakdown by Sergey Chesnokov on creating lifelike fur using the time-tested ‘cards’ method.

It covers a wide range of considerations, from how to place and space your cards to how to pick your textures.
